Biblioteca's House and Garden Tour
We hope that you will join us on any given Sunday for San Miguel de Allende's most popular tourist attraction, the weekly House & Garden Tour sponsored by the Biblioteca Pública.
The tours were started approximately 50 years ago by local foreign residents in order to provide visitors with the chance to see “behind the hidden walls” of San Miguel. We have over 300 houses on our roster with new homes never-before-seen on the tour being shown on a regular basis. The House & Garden Tour shows different homes every Sunday (with the exception of those which fall on a holiday).
The local weekly newspaper, Atención, gives descriptions of the properties to be shown every Friday as well as alerting visitors if a holiday is upcoming. Our website will also post descriptions of the homes shown that week or advise if a holiday, festival or fiesta prevents a tour. All the tours are conducted via local buses so normally very little walking is required, although we would like to advise visitors with walking problems to ask at the cashier’s desk on any given Sunday how much walking will be required.
On your Sunday visit you may see anything from a Colonial mansion to a tiny adobe house, a splendid new home or an artist’s domain. Reservations are not necessary – just come to the Biblioteca Pública on a Sunday between 10 am and noon, and purchase your tickets at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at our Ticket Centro located just inside the Biblioteca's.
Breakfast is served in our beautiful patio from 9am till 11.30am prior to the tour and music is played in the main patio between 11AM and noon. We offer discounts for groups of ten or more, and tickets cost $200 pesos. Cash only, no credit cards or Traveler’s checks are accepted. Please join us! Proceeds benefit the Biblioteca Pública and its educational programs for children.

Please note: There are rare times when homes that are featured on the Biblioteca website and in the Atencion newspaper are not available for viewing. These last minute changes are beyond the control of the Biblioteca and we appreciate and thank you for your understanding when these situations occur.

Casa Webber
Chris and Barbara Webber, who moved into this lovely modern five acre hacienda in June 2003, introduce us to their house. Following Chris’ rough-hewn designs, local architect Juan Carlos Valdez brought the Webbers’ dream house to life. Its softly curved, gravel driveway leads to the entrance doors of solid mahogany, which open onto a large patio with cantera columns. Two guestrooms with country vistas are furnished with leather furniture reminiscent of the British rule in India, but made near Guadalajara. The master suite contains a fireplace sitting area, and a mahogany walk-in closet. Most impressive are the living and dining rooms with comfortable sofas, leather chairs, roll top desk, and a stone fireplace. Be sure to ask Chris about the ladder in the corner!. A custom made brass chandelier hangs adove the antique walnut dining table. Most delicious of all is the kitchen with a sink in the middle island, and an enormous chef´s stove protected by an outstanding copper hood. Antique stainless and glass cabinets display family china. A charming fully equipped two-bedroom, two bathroom guest house, offering guests privacy and seclusion.
Hacienda de las flores
This beautiful and exclusive place belongs to one of the best well know Mexicans in San Miguel Allende, who has a lot to do with its beauty and design. The owner defines her home as the perfect place for a holiday where you can enjoy life, ideal to relax from the daily activities. This very private B&B was built in a colonial style, reminding us the attractive and serene way of life from days of old. A sunny front courtyard and a swiming pool welcome the visitors from several rooms around the courtyard. The flower walk and the big dinning room are truly a pleasure. This home has been recommended in International Publications.
Casa Castilla
Built from the existing ruins of San Miguel’s first orphanage, original castle-like walls are still standing, giving this house that very special Colonial touch. The kitchen and dining area are a gourmet’s dream, with views to the west, and the dining al fresco with glass doors opening to walls and lushly green patios beyond. A bedroom is reached via an outside bridge, and another with a secret door leads to the entertainment area with multi leveled seating and photographs of many renowned actors on one wall. The master bathroom contains its original stone. There are endless delights to be seen – the sala with mirrors, antiques, religious objects and retractable glass roof plus endless stone passageways and arched staircases.
